Zego has revealed that Uber driver Mohammad Umran from Stockport, has won a new electric car in the company’s Good Driver Giveaway competition.
The competition, which ran for two months, was open to private hire drivers with a Zego Sense insurance policy - Zego’s flagship insurance product.
To enter the Good Driver Giveaway, private hire drivers with a Zego Sense policy had to have a valid Sense policy, download the Sense app, and start to build their driver score.
The prize, now claimed by Umran, was £35k to go towards an electric vehicle (EV) of their choice.
Sten Saar, chief executive officer at Zego, said: “Zego is all about powering opportunities, especially with Zego Sense policies that assess risk on an individual basis.
“We hosted the Good Driver Giveaway to raise awareness of safer, more sustainable driving and to reward many of our very safest drivers - not just with the main prize of an EV, but also with smaller prizes such as £50 Amazon vouchers along the way.”
Christopher Hook, head of sustainability strategy at Uber, said: “Uber has committed to becoming a zero-emissions platform across the UK by 2030.
“We are thrilled to hear that Mohammed has won a new EV – becoming the latest of thousands of Uber drivers making the switch to EV. We wish him many safe and sustainable miles in his new car.”
Umran said: “I have had my eye on an electric car for some time now, even more so recently with the cost of fuel! I am over the moon to have won - this will make a huge difference to my work and to my life.”
The Zego Sense app is software that works in the background while drivers are out on the road and measures things such as speed, cornering, and braking.
Based on this information, drivers are then given a personalised driver score, ranging from 0 to 100, with better driving resulting in higher scores and lower premiums, Zego said.
Last month (June), Zego launched a ‘Refer a Friend’ programme which will reward existing policyholders, as well as those they refer, when they sign up for one of Zego’s monthly or annual policies.
