Ultra-rapid EV charging station opens in Martlesham

Fastned’s ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging station has opened in Martlesham, to cater for commuters on their way to, through, and from Ipswich.

The charging station, situated at the A12 at Martlesham Park and Ride, initially has six charging bays offering up to 300kW of renewable power capable of providing EVs with up to 300 miles of range in 20 minutes.

The new station was opened by Therese Coffey MP and secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs.

Commenting at the opening, Coffey said: “Investment in infrastructure will be key, which is why I’m delighted to open Fastned’s newest charging station here in Martlesham - the fastest way to charge in Suffolk. Forward-thinking projects such as this will secure the future of sustainable transport and provide cleaner air across the UK.”

The new station is Fastned’s 14th station in the UK.

Fastned said it plans to open a further two charging bays later this summer.

BVRLA launches compliance forum

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVLRA) is launching a new compliance forum to help its members take a more proactive approach to the industry’s fast-moving regulatory environment.

Centred around three half-day events, each forum programme will present the opportunity to discuss compliance best practices and explore issues directly with regulators, lawyers, compliance experts and their peers.

Shashi Maharaj, BVRLA’s director of legal and membership, said: “Our members have a duty to their customers to be in step with any regulatory changes. We have a duty to equip them with the knowledge to do that effectively and this new compliance forum offers exactly that.”

The first compliance forum will focus on ‘Compliance in the Age of Consumer Duty’. The half-day event will include keynote speeches on commissions and the Consumer Credit Act (CCA). The keynotes will be punctuated by panels exploring Consumer Duty and what motor finance will look like in 2030.

Targa Telematics joins the BVRLA

Targa Telematics has joined the BVRLA. Targa Telematics said joining the BVRLA demonstrates its commitment to the British automotive industry and its aim to educate and support rental and leasing companies on the benefits of digital transformation enabled by connected car data.

Thomas Smith, country manager UK of Targa Telematics, said: “We are proud to be joining such a prestigious association as the BVRLA. We look forward to working with our fellow members and helping them realise the benefits that can be gained from correctly applying connected vehicle data within their business.”

Webfleet collaborates with Ford to offer integrated telematics

Ford has joined Webfleet’s OEM.connect partner programme. Webfleet said Ford passenger cars and vans with line-fitted connectivity are ready to connect with the Webfleet service platform, removing the need for after-market hardware installations.

With OEM.connect, Ford vehicles can transmit vehicle data directly to Webfleet, all that is needed to connect the vehicles is the vehicle identification number (VIN).

Taco van der Leij, vice president of Webfleet Europe, said: “We are happy to welcome Ford to our OEM.connect programme and offer an integrated telematics solution to our joint customers.

“This cooperation underlines how important telematics data is for fleets and how pooling expertise will accelerate and improve the application of this technology.”

With OEM.connect, Ford passenger car and van customers can access the standard Webfleet applications, including fleet performance reporting, trip data, GPS tracking and fuel consumption.

FleetCheck adds new training videos

A new series of free fleet training videos have been added to FleetCheck’s online Learning Library resource.

The new videos cover fuel management, tyre management, driver licence checking, telematics, defects management, driver training, driver safety management, fleet solutions and using spreadsheets.

Peter Golding, managing director at FleetCheck, said: “The videos are designed to be highly informative, easy to understand, and provide a good briefing for managers who are often very time-poor. We expect that they will find a ready audience and believe they will be especially useful for the small-medium sized companies that make up a significant part of our user base.”
