Volkswagen has announced We Share, an all-electric car sharing service in selected major cities.

The first fleet of 1,500 vehicles will be rolled out in the German capital Berlin, and will comprise of VW e-Golf models.

When the e-mobility service begins operating in the second quarter of 2019, an additional 500 e-up vehicles will be added.

The initial vehicles will gradually be replaced by the first models from the new electric Volkswagen ID family from 2020.

Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen brand board member for sales, said: “We want to motivate young, urban users to engage with e-mobility. The people of Berlin will be the first to enjoy the electrifying experience of our We Share car sharing offering.”

We Share is the first service in the new ecosystem Volkswagen We aimed at non-owners.

Following the Berlin launch, Volkswagen will expand the service to other major German Cities with a European roll out expected by 2020.
