Volkswagen is set to launch its all-new Tiguan in the autumn, with the plug-in hybrid variant offering DC fast charging and a 62-mile electric range.
The new Tiguan is expected to arrive in the UK in 2024. Its front-end styling will closely resemble the VW ID4, with a flatter front and full width light bar.
It will be one of the first vehicles in its class to be available with optional HD matrix headlights. The IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlight technology was developed jointly for the Tiguan and Touareg.
Based on customer feedback, the Tiguan will feature a newly developed cockpit and a new infotainment system. A 15-inch central screen will displays important functions such as navigation, music and climate control and can be customised with quick access. The center console also houses the Driving Experience Control. The rotary control with its own mini-screen can be used to control drive mode, radio volume or ambient lighting colours.
Like on the Volkswagen ID models, the gear position is now changed by means of a steering column switch on the right of the steering wheel. All Tiguans will use a DSG transmission.
Petrol, diesel, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains are line-up for the new Tiguan. VW has not confirmed which powertrains will be available in the UK, but the eHybrid will be the most attractive to fleet customers. With an enhanced electric range of 62 miles, the eHybrid should attract an 8% benefit-in-kind tax rate and will also feature DC fast charging for the first time.
The new Tiguan grows in length by around three centimetres. Height, width and wheelbase remain almost identical to the predecessor. The luggage compartment capacity has increased by 33 litres to 648 litres.
More details on the new Tiguan will be revealed in the autumn when the car is officially launched.
