Ryder has donated a Euro 5 Iveco Stralis to Stephenson College in Coalville, where its Apprentice Technicians study.
The 2008-plate Iveco Stralis replaces a vehicle that was five years older. It was previously leased by Ryder to a major third party logistics supplier.
"At Ryder, we believe in investing in our people and the future of the transport industry. By donating this truck to Stephenson College, we ensure that our apprentices are properly prepared, and develop their skills by working on a modern truck," said Lucy Bartlett, Ryder’s learning and development advisor.
On average, Ryder recruits a dozen Apprentice Technicians a year and they attend the college on a block-release basis. Those that perform well have the opportunity to continue their training with Level 4 diploma or Level 4 HNC courses.
Mark Walker, faculty head at Stephenson College, says: "Thanks to Ryder’s donation, our students are exposed to up-to-date technology, meaning they benefit from a higher standard of education that enhances their competence in the workplace."
