PEUGEOT has announced two new engines and a price rise on some 406 models. From July, the car will be available with a high performance 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine and the new 2.1 litre turbodiesel.

The petrol engine replaces the 16v 2.0 litre engine in the SRi and Executive models and boosts performance, giving a 0-62 mph time of 10.3 seconds and a top speed of around 130 mph. The 2.1 litre turbodiesel - with 12 valves covering its four cylinders - will sell alongside the 1.9 litre turbo diesel on all except the L models, lifting the number of models available from 18 to 23.
