FLEET managers have broadly supported moves by the Government to highlight the need for companies to train their drivers. The white paper singles out company car drivers as having a disproportionately high number of accidents and says it intends to work with the motor industry to cut down on accidents.

Fleet bosses say the move will encourage firms to look more deeply at driver training and the benefits it can have for cutting down on accidents. The Government's stance has also added weight initiatives such as the Drive Away Stress programme, run by ACE Vehicle Deliveries, which provides a part-time driver for overworked executives.
