DRIVE & Survive has been contracted to supply a driver training programme for SGB, the access products and services group. The programme is being co-ordinated internally by SGB Fleet Services, which is responsible for the procurement and running of the group's 1,500-strong fleet.

Paul Maberley, the company's group transport manager, said: 'We had to satisfy ourselves that the training supplier had the infrastructure and experience to meet our needs. Although we have a large number of cars, we also have many vans and 250 heavy commercial vehicles. Many of the latter deliver or operate very specialised equipment which will require the development of specialised driver training courses to meet their specific needs.'

Drive & Survive will be providing training for drivers of a whole range of vehicles from cars and vans to HGVs and cement mixers in a rolling programme which will begin with each employee receiving a day's training. SGB, which supplies portable buildings and scaffolding, operates internationally and the training programme may eventually extend to other countries.
