FLEET managers are being told they must champion the cause of training at boardroom level in order to stop their profession being under-valued and their companies losing money through avoidable inefficiencies. The call has come from fleet consultancy Fleet Audits which has had to postpone an intermediate fleet management course, due to take place this month, until September because only one person had signed up to take part.

This follows a similar occasion in which the RAC had to postpone the second phase of its scholarship programme run in conjunction with the Institute of Car Fleet Management when just one UK fleet chief announced his intention to enrol. Chris Chandler, of Fleet Audits, said: 'It appears even the managers who have shown an interest in the courses find it increasingly difficult to get the funding and time away from the office.'

The intermediate course has been re-scheduled for September 7 and 8, with part two on October 5 and 6. Places are also available on the basic fleet management course which takes place on September 21 and 22. More information from Fleet Audits on 01730 266666.
