THE past year has seen an explosion in services available to fleet decision-makers over the internet. Everything from acquisition to ordering services, rental cars and disposal is now possible from an internet-ready computer.

In response to growing demand in the fleet industry for a forum to explain the choices fleet decision-makers can make in using the internet, Fleet News and its website FleetNewsNet will host a conference next month called Move Your Fleet Online.

The event, which will be held in association with the Chartered Institute of Supply and Purchasing, takes place on Tuesday, January 28 at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire.

Under the guidance of conference chairman Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the event will examine the key issues fleet decision-makers will face in doing business on the internet and the services they can expect.

Issues covered include:

  • the massive purchasing power fleets can access using the internet, particularly by joining buying groups to make the most of bulk-buying discounts
  • internet-based disposals will come under the spotlight, along with using the web-based services for tracking vehicles and communicating with them
  • a focus on security, looking at whether commercial information is safe when it is transferred over the internet to a supplier and back again.

Experts from throughout the industry are lined up to speak at the event, which is aimed at all levels of the fleet decision-making process.

  • Ticket prices for the day are £59 for fleet decision-makers and £79 for other industry professionals, but only for those booking early. From January 3, prices move up to £79 and £99 respectively. All figures are exclusive of VAT.
