GERARD Finn, Associate manager, car fleet & business travel, Avon.

How many vehicles are you in charge of?
I am responsible for 575 vehicles and have been in the fleet industry for 21 years.

How did you get into the industry?
I learned motor vehicle engineering when I was at college and figured there was a better way of earning a living than by getting my hands dirty.

What has been your worst career moment?
A long time ago I worked for a company that had its own on-site fuel pumps. I got the tanker driver to drop 20,000 litres of BP’s finest winter grade diesel into an underground tank containing 18,000 litres of four-star petrol.

My mistake was only discovered 15 cars later –misfuelling is not a new problem.

If you were transport minister what policy would you introduce?
The policy I would introduce is that myself and my staff are to remind ourselves, every day, that we are there to serve the nation.

Where was you last holiday?
In France – fabulous country.
