THE Xsara Picasso has done a great job for Citroen. It was the best-selling mini-MPV for many years, but a combination of its potato shape, plasticky interior and huge numbers of short-term and Motability sales had a negative effect on its residuals.

The more sophisticated new C4 Picasso, which sells alongside the Xsara version, brings a dash of style to Citroën’s always-strong price proposition. Rather than being purely the cheap option, this new car looks as if it will compete against the very best.
