Vauxhall has introduced a cleaner, more fuel-efficient diesel engine to the Corsa range.

The 1.3 CDTi 75bhp unit emits 119g/km of CO2 and returns claimed combined fuel economy of 62.8mpg.

This compares to 124g/km and 61.4mpg in the previous version of the engine.

As well as being cleaner, the unit will also provide cheaper company car tax bills in the next financial year, starting in April 2008, as it will fall into the lowest 13% diesel benefit-in-kind banding.

The new engine, which also cuts the annual VED rate from £115 to £35, is available in three and five-door bodystyles with prices ranging from £9,810 to £12,890.
