Mitsubishi is claiming best-in-class CO2 emissions for its new small car unveiled in Paris.

The Mirage is expected to be launched int he UK in March 2013, and the petrol-only range will have CO2 emissions from 92g/km.

Some of the efficiency has also been achieved through making the car lighter than its predecessor.

Lance Bradley, managing director of Mitsubishi in the UK, believes the Mirage will be an important car for the manufacturer and a perfect platform to showcase the brand's green credentials.

"Mirage is our new take on the B-segment, the very first thought when designing the car was CO2 emissons, we are looking forward to launching and showing the market what we can do."

In Europe, the Mirage will offer three-cylinder petrol engines along with a range of eco technology including, stop/start, Regenerative braking and a three-bar Eco Drive Assist system meant to give a visual indication of how efficiently the car is being driven.

Bradley confirmed that the entire Mitsubishi range will include a hybrid or EV variant within the next five years, the Mirage is expected to be offered as a full EV as the technology is more suited to small cars.
