Compass Point Recruitment have partnered with a fantastic employer locally, based south of Ipswich, who are looking for a Fleet manager to join their team.

This senior management position entails direct accountability for enhancing site productivity and efficiency through optimised finished goods flows.

Key areas of focus include:
• Defining medium to long-term strategies to streamline finished goods production, loading, and delivery processes.
• Leading and managing a team of drivers and contractors.
• Role modelling and leading appropriate personal, team, and plant safety, as well as food safety standards.
• Liaising closely with the production team to ensure seamless integration and execution of logistics, maximizing plant uptime.
• Budgetary accountability for approximately £1.5m logistic cost expenditure, showcasing excellent financial controls, cost discipline, and value management/purchasing principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Fleet Management:
• Acting as the site's competent person for fleet management.
• Ensuring issuance of vehicle loading sheets to the factory and driver notes/wallets to drivers for every delivery.
• Booking fleet with appropriate service providers, managing information flow in case of plan variations, and maintaining orderly fleet maintenance records.
• Adhering to "O" license and other UK relevant transport legislation.

Plant Reliability, Planning, and Scheduling:
• Identifying and minimizing logistical risks by predicting product demand.
• Supervising raw material and finished goods inventory and distribution.
• Collaborating with the production management team to develop yearly, quarterly, and weekly production schedules for efficient resource deployment.
• Ensuring clarity and communication of production plans and alignment with demand plans.

Leadership and Management:
• Leading the logistics team and exemplifying safety, technical, and professional standards.
• Appointing, leading, and managing/supervising contract personnel.
• Ensuring team members are trained to required competency levels and fostering flexibility.

Financial Controls:
• Setting appropriate annual logistics budgets based on historical data and expected demands.
• Proactively managing logistics budget and implementing expenditure control mechanisms.
• Maintaining control over stock and goods inventory through effective stores management.

Health, Safety, and Food Safety:
• Managing and leading safety processes, including driver license and training refreshers.
• Conducting toolbox talks, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards.
• Providing safety supervision for contract personnel and overseeing safety guidelines and protocols.

Continuous Improvement:
• Driving factory process improvements through techniques like root cause analysis and downtime analysis.
• Contributing to plant housekeeping and GMP audits and managing logistics team standard tasks.

Measures of Success:
• Clear logistics strategy and plans.
• Adherence to logistics budget.
• Decrease in logistic complaints.
• On-time, in-full, and in-spec (OTIFIS) reports demonstrating service levels.
• Team competency score and presence of team development plans.

Decision Making:
• Decision rights on logistics budgeting and expenditure control.
• Decision rights on statutory and mandatory fleet matters.
• Consultation and information rights regarding production planning.

Key Relationships:
• Engineering team, contractor workforce, plant manager, production managers, QESH manager, financial controller.

About you:
• Advantageous but not essential - bachelor's degree in logistics, business administration, or relevant certifications.
• NEBOSH or IOSH safety certificate.
• Knowledge of logistics planning principles, yeast manufacturing, continuous improvement, and environmental awareness.
• Experience in food and beverage industry is ideal
• Evident experience of leadership of fleet teams, logistics "philosophies" implementation, root cause analysis, and safety, quality, and environmental processes.
• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and logistics management systems.
• Traceability, logistics data analysis, planning, time management, relationship management, problem-solving, interpersonal, IT systems, risk management, negotiation, prioritization, and numeracy.
• Results-focused, self-starter, determined, resilient, flexible, openness to change, commitment to safety and company values.
