Cupra has updated the Leon and Formentor, bringing new technology and powertrains along with a major styling overhaul.

A key upgrade is the new eHybrid models, which offer lower company car tax and better performance than before.

Both cars adopt the new Cupra styling DNA, with a shark-nose front end, triangular LED headlamps and a large lower grille.

The Leon becomes a standalone model in the Cupra line-up, with a bespoke look that sets it apart from its Seat counterpart.

Familiar interior layouts are carried over for the Leon and Formentor, but the infotainment screen has grown to 12.9 inches in both models. The system has been enhanced with a new layout and the touch sensitive sliders used to control the audio volume and cabin temperature are now illuminated.

Cupra has developed a new 12-speaker sound system in collaboration with audio specialist Sennheiser,  which is optionally available on both cars.

Powertrains include petrol TSI units and mild-hybrid eTSI units, as well as new eHybrid plug-in hybrid options.

The entry-level powertrain is a 150PS 1.5-litre. There's also a 2.0-litre with 204PS, 300PS and 333PS. The mild hybrid is also a 1.5-litre with 150PS.

Two plug-in hybrids are available with 204PS or 272PS. They both utilise a new 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 19.7kWh battery. The zero-emission range is at least 62 miles, officially, placing all eHybrid variants in the 8% benefit-in-kind tax band.

The battery support 50kW rapid charging and AC charging at up to 11kW. Models with the 272PS engine will be fitted with larger Brembo brakes.

The new Cupra Leon and Formentor will be officially launched in Q3. Prices and full UK specifications will be released when the car is available to order later this year.
