BEST practice in Government fleets was one of the issues discussed at the recent Government Fleet Managers' Network meeting.

Fleet managers responsible for more than 40,000 Government department vehicles also discussed topics such as fleet management, fuel cards, congestion, tolls and greener fleets.

John Webb, national fleet manager at HM Customs and Excise and Fleet News award winner, attended the meeting. He said: 'One issue we discussed was the impact of the civil service reform and how this will affect fleets. The Government is looking at reducing staff which will mean a reduced demand for vehicles.

'The meeting highlighted a commitment among Government fleets to achieve value for money for the tax payer.'

Fleets attending included the Inland Revenue, Department for Work and Pensions, Health & Safety Executive and the Environment Agency.

Speakers from the Department for Transport and TransportEnergy also attended.
