Research by Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, designed to explore fleet managers’ attitudes towards greener driving initiatives, revealed that a majority (58%) believe that telematics technology will ultimately help to make fleets more environmentally friendly.

Attitudes to the cost implications of telematics remain divided, however, with 42% of respondents saying they thought they would be able to deliver financial savings and 49% stating that cost would prevent the adoption of telematics technology within their organisations.

Steve Pinchen, environmental development manager at Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, said: “Tighter budgets and green targets mean that reducing fuel consumption is now a top priority for fleet managers.

“Our research highlights the growing recognition that telematics is a tool that can provide fleet managers with the visibility and control they need to reduce both running costs and carbon footprint of their vehicles.”
