Arval UK has been presented with the Safety Award at the 2010 Fleet News awards ceremony.

Arval operates a safety-first culture across its own business and 320 car company fleet operations. As a result, safety best practice is ingrained in
its employees and reinforced by its Drive4Life training delivered by in-house road safety expert and Brake driver trainer Tracey Young.

This year Arval introduced two initiatives to spread the road safety message.
The first, the Arval road safety forum, currently has 20 fleet representatives who come together every quarter to share ideas and good practice.

Education, debate and advice form the forum’s three strands and it has created a 10-point action plan to help companies develop and then implement road
safety strategies.

The second initiative – Arval’s road safety seminar – is based on the ‘Safe Drive, Stay Alive’ initiative that Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service delivers to young drivers. It uses real incidents, real victims and real emergency professionals to deliver a hard-hitting road safety message.

From this, Arval created a bespoke seminar for businesses and their drivers, incorporating this powerful message but incorporating fleet-specific information.
The free seminar was attended by 25 businesses and, due to its success, more are planned.

Judges’ comments
Arval’s initiative is really making a difference to fleet operators. It is putting safety at the centre of fleet culture by providing an environment where companies can share best practice. It is refreshing to see a leasing company take an altruistic approach – it’s not selling a service, it’s giving something of value to fleets.

E-Training World was highly commended by the judges.
