BMW has improved the official driving range of its i4 models by introducing some technical changes that boost efficiency.

The upgrade is said to deliver a 4.5% improvement in range, by reducing electricity consumption.

BMW says the i4 eDrive35 now has a range of 266 miles, while the eDrive40 version can cover 317 miles. The changes apply to models produced from July 2025.

The revisions are centred around the use of silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics. The same technology was introduced on the i5, at the start of the year.

The i4 range is available for £51,370, with the eDrive35 powertrain, which has a 67.1kWh battery and a 286PS motor. Prices for the eDrive40, with an 81.3kWh battery and 340PS, start at £59,465.

BMW has also introduced a new range topping i4 M60 xDrive. This version replaces the M50 xDrive and has an additional 57PS, taking total power to 601PS. The new model has a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds an a WLTP range of 269 miles. Prices start at £71,000.

The i4 was facelifted in 2024, bringing a refreshed look and new infotainment.

BMW has intorduced a global complimentary extended warranty for the high-voltage batteries in all-electric BMW models. The new warranty applies up to a vehicle age of eight years or a maximum mileage of 160,000km (99,419miles), whichever comes first. Should a high-voltage battery’s capacity drop below 70% during the warranty period, BMW will remedy this loss of capacity at no extra cost to the customer. This applies to all new and used all-electric BMW models from April 1, 2025.
