Pre-booking parking and not circling around looking for spaces can significantly cut air pollution, research from YourParkingSpace.co.uk has found.

The online parking portal found that its customers saved a combined total of 132 tonnes of CO2 by driving straight to their reserved parking space over the past year. They also saved more than 46,000 grams of harmful nitrogen oxides.

Additionally, more than 46,000 grams of particularly harmful nitrogen oxides, largely responsible for air pollution and smog, was also saved by motorists driving straight to a pre-booked parking space rather than driving around searching for one.

Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said: “Changing attitudes towards how motorists drive and park can help put an end to the environmentally damaging practice of circling the block in the hope of finding an available parking space.

“Our research is a stark reminder of how much air pollution can be avoided.”

YourParkingSpace.co.uk has also recently announced a partnership with Zap-Map.com, which will allow customers to make bookings for spaces where electric vehicle charging is available directly through the platform.
