E-Training World has released a bridge strike module aimed at HGV and PCV operators in hopes to reduce the 2,000 bridge strikes that occur every year.
The bridge strikes e-module is aimed to change drivers’ attitude, educate them and offer them advice and guidance. It also brings to their attention the extreme costs, dangers and risks to other people’s lives that bridge strikes cause.
According to Network Rail, railways suffer almost 2,000 bridge strikes every year costing the taxpayer some £23m.
E-Training World’s sales and marketing director Jonathan Mosley said: “As with almost all accidents and collisions, driver error is usually the cause.
“Our web-based module is aimed at minimising the chances of a driver ever striking a bridge again by focusing on the wide range of factors that contribute to trucks, buses and coaches hitting bridges.
“It includes advice when driving towards arched bridges, being sure about your vehicle height, route planning, the meaning of warning signs at low bridges, driver attitude in general, and the fines, prosecutions and potential costs to both the driver and the company of a vehicle hitting a bridge.”

Totally misses the point. Most drivers hit bridges through inattention and carelessness. Bridges are well-signed but inattentive careless drivers don't see signs.
