The Omoda 5 SUV, which will go on sale in February 2024 with a choice of petrol or electric powertrains, has received its safety rating from Euro NCAP.

The new brand, which is a subsidiary of China's largest car manufacturer, Chery Group, received a five-star safety rating for its new car.

It received a score of 87% for adult occupant protection, 87% for child occupant protection, 88% for safety assistance systems and 68% for vulnerable road user protection.

Chen Chunqing, CEO of Omoda, said: "Safety has been a paramount consideration throughout the design and development of the Omoda 5, and achieving such exceptional scores from Euro NCAP reflects our unwavering commitment to providing our customers with the highest level of protection and peace of mind.

“With each accolade and milestone, Omoda strengthens its position as a trusted global automotive brand, dedicated to providing uncompromising safety and exceptional driving experiences for our customers.”

At the core of its safety features is a high-strength steel body structure comprising 78% steel, engineered to withstand pressures of up to 1800Mpa.

In the event of an accident, the cage body design ensures structural integrity is maintained.

Multiple airbags, including those for driver and passenger seats, side airbags, side curtains, and a middle airbag to mitigate occupant-to-occupant collisions, provide further protection for occupants in multiple scenarios.

Meanwhile, it is also equipped with an array of crash avoidance systems which further reinforce its commitment to safety, says Omoda.

Fleet News was given an exclusive walkaround of the new SUV, earlier this year, when Omoda revealed an ambition to open a network of 50 showrooms in the UK.

The Omoda 5 blends styling cues from the Cupra Formentor, MG 4 and Nissan Aryia. Its dashboard appears to be heavily influenced by the Kia EV6, with a pair of conjoined 10.25-inch screens and a row of touch sensitive quick keys.
