Zapmap has launched a new charging payment card for electric vehicles (EVs), giving drivers access to tens of thousands of charge points.
Working with the Zapmap app, the new card allows drivers to start a charge at more than 40,000 charge points across 30-plus networks, which are already accessible for digital payments in the app.
“We’re here to help drivers charge with confidence and the new charging card makes that even easier,” said Melanie Shufflebotham, chief operating officer and co-founder of Zapmap.
“Whether you're using your phone or tapping your card, paying with Zapmap fits around your journey.”
Drivers can pay by tapping their Zapmap charging card at supported chargers, with sessions and receipts appearing automatically in the app.
The charging card is available from today to Zapmap premium annual subscribers for a small fee, with rollout to all Zapmap users later this summer.
Zapmap data shows that 136 charging hubs installed across the country in the first half of the year, bringing the total across the UK to 673.
These hubs, says Zapmap, are popular with electric car drivers, especially to support en-route charging on longer journeys.
It also believes that they are also beginning to show the future direction for the EV infrastructure, with faster charging times, an increased focus on sustainable energy systems and locations which deliver enhanced amenities.
Overall, the latest figures show that 8,670 new charge points were installed in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 27%.
EV charging infrastructure now encompasses 82,369 devices at 40,479 locations.
