VW is expanding the ID Buzz line-up with a new GTX version, bringing more power and sportier styling.

Two electric motors power the GTX with an output of 340PS, which is enough to shift the ID Buzz from 0-62mph in just 6.5 seconds.

A 79kWh battery is fitted to the standard wheelbase version, while the long wheelbase gets an 86kWh unit.

VW has not published any range data for the ID Buzz GTX but it has said the 79kWh battery can be charged at up to 185kW, taking the battery from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes. The 86kWh battery absorbs energy at up to 200kW, giving the same 10% to 80% charge time of 26 minutes.

With more power on tap, the ID Buzz GTX provides a much greater towing capcity than a regular ID Buzz. The standard wheelbase can tow up to 1,800Kg, an increase on 800Kg, while the long wheelbase manages 1,600Kg.

The vehicle has a new bumper design as well as a darker interior theme, with a black headliner and GTX specific upholstery.

Updates to the car's infotainment system include a new 12.9-inch touchscreen, with illuminated touch panel sliders for the volume and temperature controls, and an improved voice assistant.

The VW ID Buzz GTX will go on sale later this year in five-, six-, or seven-seat configurations, alongside the all-new VW Transporter, updated Crafter and new plug-in hybrid Caddy. The brand will also introduce a new all-wheel-drive Multivan and a new California camper.
