Renault's managing director Adam Wood spoke about the brand’s experience of electrification and the fleet industry.
Renault, itself a sponsor of the Fleet News Electric Fleet Report, is helping fleets in their electric transition by providing electric models and services tailored to their needs.
The appeal of electrification
Priorities are changing for fleets across the UK, Wood explained, as the expectations of modern customers develop in response to the focus on environmental considerations from public and regulatory bodies alike.
“We're starting to see a real shift in what customers are looking for,” he said. “We know that the major corporate customers in the UK are really paying attention to their carbon footprint. Many of them now are considering going electric at scale.”
Wood noted how the prospect of transitioning to electric vehicles makes a lot of sense for fleet businesses on multiple other levels, as well as sustainability.
“Not only do they make rational sense, they can tangibly save businesses money on ownership costs, and they’ve also got a huge emotional appeal as well.”
Trying is believing
EV adoption is growing across the fleet sector. Wood maintains they are becoming more popular as customers learn about their inherent advantages, with the best way for customers to really understand them is to drive one.
“We know that once customers sample electric, they’re convinced it’s for them. The driving experience, first and foremost – they’re fun to drive, they’re quiet, they’re efficient… I would very much encourage businesses to try the product in its own operations.”
Renault provides extended test-driving opportunities for all its electric vans to ensure fleet professionals can gain hands-on experience with the EVs.
The manufacturer also maintains a network of 40 specialist Pro Plus LCV retailers across the UK. Its sales team are accredited and qualified experts in LCVs and electrification, and fleet customers can benefit from their expertise on a range of issues and subjects extending beyond Renault’s EV models to cover the entire ecosystem.
Renault’s range of electric vehicles
Renault offers a diverse range of electric vehicles, said Wood. “From Kangoo in the small van sector, Trafic in the medium van and, of course, the International Van of the Year, the new Master. All of them available in both combustion and fully electric variants, and we have a huge range of off-the-shelf conversions to suit a huge variety of different business needs.”
Beyond its range of vehicles, Renault also offers dedicated servicing facilities, he added. “We also offer dedicated servicing facilities and, in some cases, extended hours to make sure that servicing and maintaining your van is as convenient as buying one too.”
