How do I pay the Dartford Crossing toll?

From 30 November 2014, you’ll no longer pay at the barriers when you use the Dartford Crossing. The new payment service is called Dart Charge.

Similar to the London congestion charge, you will be able to pay by a variety of methods before you start your journey or by midnight the following day.

If you do not pay the charge your vehicle will be picked up by the automatic number plate recognition and a penalty charge will be raised at a cost of £70, which has to be paid in 28 days.

This reduces to £35 if paid within 14 days, and increases to £105 after 28 days.

You don’t have to pay if you cross with a moped, motorcycle, motor tricycle or quad bike.

You will be sent a Penalty Charge Notice if you don’t pay by midnight on the day after you made your crossing.

You also have to pay the crossing charge - please remember the  penalty charge is raised per trip.
