Fleets looking at 'smarter' mobility options, according to ALD

Smart mobility is one of the key themes for ALD Automotive this year, according to Rhys Harrhy, telematics product manager.

“We are putting together three elements within our business: telematics, hybrid and electric vehicle technology and TCO – total cost of ownership analysis,” he said. “Combining those three areas provides customers with a smarter way of assessing what types of vehicles they need for their fleet.

“By looking at the telematics data you can assess the suitability of the driver to an electric vehicle or hybrid whereas without it is really is just guess work.”

ALD fits telematics as standard to its vehicles with the option for customers to upgrade to a full driver behaviour system.

It has already seen a 300% increase in fleets opting for its paid for telematics service over the past three years

“Telematics is high on the agenda for many companies and we’ve had lots of enquires about how it might help businesses,” Harrhy said.

He added: “We see Fleet Management Live as a very worthwhile event. It is a great venue to meet potentially new customers and existing ones and see what the rest of the industry is doing.”
