What issues should the Government focus on in its transport policy that would help fleets?

Paul Tate The rising cost of fuel is a constant issue for fleets and a commitment by the Government to alter the tax levied would be welcome.

Geoff Wright Fuel costs; these just go up and up and there is little to no control over the oil companies. The cost to move goods is unacceptable and is one a company cannot pass on to their customers.

Road traffic accident costs are also unacceptable with associated costs continuing to rise.

Graham Hine The rising cost of fuel is a major issue and the Government should perhaps look at how it can help large fleet operators with the cost of buying fuel.

A clear and long-term strategy on alternative-fuel vehicles will help fleets decide if they should invest in new technologies.

Tony Leigh Encourage the use of alternative fuels. Get behind the infrastructure requirements for hydrogen distribution and ditch support of electric, which is never going to be an alternative for most journeys.

The Fleet News view

The Government’s transport policy covers a gamut of topics, most of which have some impact on the operation of fleets within the UK.

But is the Government listening to the needs of industry or simply attempting to appease the vast majority of voters by concentrating on the more popular, high-profile options?

From the fleet perspective, a tighter control on key issues such as reducing fuel costs, improving road conditions and easing traffic congestion would be far more appealing.

And, for UK industry as a whole, it would make a lot more sense.
