Job Purpose
The Deputy Transport Manager will play a key role in overseeing all aspects of transportation operations. You will lead a team of drivers and administrative staff, coordinate transport schedules, optimise delivery routes, and ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of transport logistics.
Responsibilities:
🚛 Team Leadership

Inspire, lead, and support a team of drivers and operational staff.
*
Set clear expectations and carry out regular reviews and coaching.
*
Run team meetings and foster a collaborative, can-do culture.
🚦 Transport Operations
*
Plan efficient transport schedules and route assignments.
*
Monitor performance and adjust operations for peak efficiency.
*
Drive productivity while maintaining top-tier customer service.
*
Manage return-to-work meetings and support the disciplinary process.
🔐 Compliance & Safety
*
Ensure all operations meet legal and internal safety standards.
*
Implement safety protocols and conduct regular audits.
*
Promote a culture of safety and accountability.
🤝 Customer & Stakeholder Relations
*
Build strong, professional relationships with clients and suppliers.
*
Resolve issues quickly and positively to maintain satisfaction.
💡 Resource & Budget Management
*
Allocate vehicles, fuel, and equipment efficiently.
*
Negotiate contracts with suppliers to keep operations cost-effective.
📈 Reporting & Continuous Improvement
*
Prepare transport reports including KPIs and performance data.
*
Use insights to recommend operational improvements.
*
Keep up with industry trends and tech to drive innovation.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
*
Minimum 1 year in a transportation management or similar role with leadership responsibility.
*
Strong knowledge of transport logistics and fleet operations.
*
Proficient in Microsoft Office and transport software systems.
*
Excellent organisational and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
*
CPC in Road Haulage (required) and eligibility to be nominated on an Operator’s Licence.
*
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable:
*
3+ years of experience in transport operations (preferred).
*
GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
*
Familiarity with modern transport practices and regulatory compliance
