Toyota is expanding its electric car line-up with the introduction of the new bZ4X Touring.

The new model is a more practical and rugged version of the existing bZ4X, adopting an estate bodystyle.

The car is due to launch next spring, joining Toyota's C-HR+ and Urban Cruiser as part of a rapidly growing electric line-up.

It is 140mm longer and 20mm taller than a bZ4X, boosting boot space by 148 litres to 600 litres.

The body provides a more rugged appearance with a grained black finish for the wheel arches and black wheels. Another Touring-specific feature is the roof rails.

Inside, the cabin features a new design similar to the new bZ4X: A new centre console for easy use of digital devices and revised instrument panel design, with a larger, 14-inch multimedia screen fitted as standard.

Toyota will offer front- and all-wheel-drive versions of the bZ4X Touring. All models will use a 74.7kWh battery. In its most efficient configuration, the car is said to offer up to 348 miles of range.

The battery features Toyota’s latest advances in improving performance and charging times. It incorporates a new water cooling system and preconditioning function.

Toyota is targeting a maximum output for the front-wheel drive model of 224PS and 380PS for the all-wheel drive bZ4X Touring.

As well as extra horsepower, the bZ4X Touring can tow trailers up to 1,500kg.

More details, including pricing, will be announced closer to the car's official launch in 2026.
