A multi-site distribution business with its head office in the Leeds area has a newly created vacancy for a Group Transport Manager to join the team.

The role sits within the Senior Management Team and has responsibility for a fleet in excess of 80 vehicles across multiple depots in the UK. We are looking for an experienced individual who can manage a complex multi-site supply chain through indirect management of the transport function by working with the local Transport Supervisors.

The role is ideally suited to someone with an extensive transport background who has possibly been a driver themselves in the past.

Duties of the role include:

Reporting on all aspects of fleet operation and demonstrating a complete understanding of the fleet, its performance and application
Identification of opportunities to deliver better value to group logistics.
Supporting and managing change relating to fleet IT solutions, including vehicle telematics, tracking systems, last mile management delivery systems, online tender platforms .
Driving safety performance through driver behaviour programmes.
Procurement and management of Third Party Logistics services
Preparation of detailed budgets and forecasts for the Group fleet and Third Party Logistics
Working closely with the Finance and Commercial teams to analyse the financial performance of the fleet, including cost benefit modelling in order to continuously review the size and shape of the fleet to drive efficiency
Working as part of the wider management team to contribute towards the overall objectives of delivering an excellent customer experience and financial performance.

Specific experience we are looking for in this role includes:

A current Transport Manager CPC for Road Haulage and with experience of running a fleet of class 1 and class 2 vehicles
Experience and up to date knowledge of The Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations
Knowledge of the DVSA earned recognition system
A track record of compliance from being an operator license holder and administrator
Procurement experience specifically relating to the purchase of fleet vehicles and trailers
HS qualifications and knowledge of the Transportable pressure equipment regulations would be beneficial
Excellent people management and leadership skills
Good commercial and negotiation skills with the ability to add significant value throughout the fleet operation

This is a head office group role for a large multi site business. There is limited and infrequent travel required. Initial interviews are likely to be over video conferencing with the start date for the successful applicant planned to coincide with relaxing of restrictions relating to Covid 19.
