Summary of the role

As Head of Fleet you are responsible for ensuring a safe, reliable and clean fleet of trains is available for our customers every day. As a key leader within our business your focus will be on the management of outsourced maintenance. With strong engineering commercial acumen, you will develop effective relationships with all stakeholders and inter-facing companies, managing the performance of all suppliers whilst taking accountability for developing and delivering an effective communications strategy throughout the business.

As we look forward to receiving a new fleet of Hitachi bi-mode units in December next year, you will lead the management of transition with the existing fleet being returned and the introduction of a new fleet.

Finally, as the custodian of our continuous improvement programme you will provide visible leadership and actively support initiatives and development within the team.

Key Accountabilities:

-Ensure all Engineering and Safety Standards and SMS requirements are met

-Ensure the appropriate vehicle maintenance and cleaning instructions are in place for the leased rolling stock, conforms to the appropriate standards and is value for money

-Manage the safety, welfare and performance of the Engineering Team

-To deliver a safe, reliable and clean service, every day. Striving for a defect-free fleet of trains

-To achieve company availability requirements

-To ensure compliance with vehicle leases

-To manage all maintenance within agreed budgets and implement continued improvement plans

-To proactively work with their internal stakeholders (Director, Operations & Customer Experience) to deliver the agreed service for the customer

-Review NIR's issued by the industry and advises Hull Trains on the appropriate response

-Issue and control any special checks required on the rolling stock

-Continually review the performance of the rolling stock and propose technical modifications and changes to instructions to improve performance

-Review material usage and identify trends which may affect safety and performance

-Initiate and manage any technical or procedural engineering changes to the rolling stock operated by Hull Trains

-Monitor and approve the purchase of safety critical components fitted to the rolling stock to ensure such materials conform to the relevant industry standards

-Manage the system for ensuring comprehensive records are in place for all maintenance arrangements

-Review technical issues, modifications and engineering change with the relevant engineer in the ROSCO

About you:

-An experienced Engineering Manager with a proven track record of success

-Able to demonstrate strong engineering commercial acumen

-Able to demonstrate leadership skills to set the highest standards within the team

-As a minimum, Engineering Degree or higher degree/business qualification. Chartered Engineer status is desirable.

-Possess a thorough knowledge of all facets of the fleet

-Can work as part of an effective Engineering Team understanding the ultimate business goals and supporting the department to achieve their overall business objectives

-The ability to demonstrate success in ensuring quality of service from our contractors are monitored and effectively managed for an effective service within budget
