A market leading wholesale distributor is looking for a dynamic Logistics Manager to take full ownership of the cost, quality and performance of the logistics function on site. You’ll have the chance to develop a warehousing team, inspire Continuous Improvement and take full responsibility for the day to day operation. In return you’ll receive a generous salary of up to £45,000, a Monday to Friday daytime role with bank holidays off, private medical and dental, life insurance, enhanced sickness pay, good pension scheme and career development opportunities.
What is our client like? They are the longest trading wholesaler within their industry, supplying independent retailers right up to blue chip supermarkets. They offer a modern and clean place to work at their state of the art distribution warehouse, with exciting future growth plans. You’ll be developing a team of 2 Warehouse FLMs, a Goods-In Manager, a Transport Coordinator and indirect reports of 60+ operatives.
Main Logistics Manager duties:
* Ensure high standards of H&S and compliance are met and exceeded and continuously improve and promote our H&S culture
* Managing the Logistics budget
* Overall responsibility for Picking, Packing, and Despatch processes, ensuring that daily orders are completed
* Managing and developing your team, creating clear succession plans and identifying key skills and talent
* Identifying training needs of staff and ensure that all training is current and up to date
* Use data from IT systems to evaluate your teams performance in order to plan improvements improved warehouse strategies
* Forecasting: Managing resource levels, analysing trends and predicting order flow and peaks
* Ensure smooth and auditable flow of goods through the supply chain
* Managing all third-party transport providers in connection with Warehouse operations
* Maintaining high levels of H&S and Legal compliance
* Negotiating contracts and rates with all carriers to ensure value and service
* Troubleshooting with Commercial, Sales and Customer Service teams to improve business performance through analysing logistical problems and producing new solutions
Experience for the Logistics Manager:
* At least 3 years Warehouse Management experience from a FMCG operation
* Transport Manager CPC either National or International is essential
* Exposure to a wholesale environment is advantageous
* Experience liaising with major high street retailers
* A good understanding of WMS and voice picking (Voytech)
* Knowledge of HR law and proven track records of managing people and conflicts
* Project management skills and proven track record in handling multiple projects
* Commercial acumen and the ability to manage a budget and negotiate transport providers (freight forwarders, parcel carriers and pallet network)
