H&M Distribution are a well-respected distribution company that were formed in January 2007, offering first-class transport and warehousing services. H&M Warrington are a Palletways member and deliver circa 700 pallets per day for Palletways members. We also have our own customer base of 183 and deliver circa 800 pallets per day into the network.

Role Responsibilities – Transport Manager:

Being a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for managing 5 office staff and 54 drivers, as well as the legal compliance of 36 vehicles and 40 trailers. Duties include:

Leading the Transport Operation, ensuring the day-to-day activities run efficiently, is safe and is legally compliant.
Taking full responsibility for the Warrington depots planning KPI performance, P&L and compliance with objectives.
Ensuring the daily multi drop deliveries and night trunking plans are completed in real time, managing resources effectively, maximizing revenue whilst minimizing costs and ensuring customer expectations are consistently met.
Adapting between working in the detail and working at a high level to see the ‘bigger picture’.
Monitoring variances to budgeted labour, vehicles costs, pallet downsizing, general haulage, and sub-contractor revenue.
Demonstrating proactive leadership and adhering to the H&M Distribution Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Management systems
Measuring and analysing all data on driver performance, tachograph compliance via Web fleet data, compliance with the Palletways KPI’s on ETA’s and POD’s
Working collaboratively with Warehouse leads to ensure a joined-up approach to vehicle departures is achieved.
Set clear accountability and ownership areas for the Transport team, delegating tasks whilst providing any necessary support and mentoring.
Maintaining a timely and values driven approach to managing recruitment, disciplinaries, grievances and absences.
Holding regular office team meetings and driver meetings as well as ad hoc catch ups with team for continual development.
Supporting leadership to assist in improving operational efficiency, customer service, driver performance.
Ensuring drivers legal compliance is adhered to on drivers’ hours, defect reporting, tachograph rules, six monthly checks on drivers HGV licenses and load restrictions.
Legal compliance of vehicle, trailer and pump trucks servicing, repairs and maintenance compliance and schedule and operator license management.

Person Specification – Transport Manager:

5+ years’ experience in leading and developing a transport team.
You must be a National CPC Holder.
Natural communicator and leader.
Personable and able to resolve complex issues calmly.  
UK based with a flexible approach to working hours.
Good team development skills.
Able to comfortably organise own work.
Ability to prioritise large volumes of demands and tasks.
Ability to influence and instil confidence with all levels of Management.
PC literate with a good understanding of Microsoft Excel.
Previous planning systems experience
