Hours of work 8am till 5pm
Development and implementation of business plans that improve service and reduce cost whilst ensuring regulatory compliance
Responsible for delivery of EBITDA and Cash through effective business leadership
Maintaining and developing a positive Health & Safety culture
Manage the ongoing update of knowledge of all transport legislation to ensure the site operates within company policy and legal requirements at all times
Manage the company’s legal requirements of monitoring tachographs
Ensuring drivers stay compliant with legislation
Monitor and manage driver adherence to critical safety processes
Leads implementation of transport strategies within the business.
Revises, protects and enhances transport strategy as new information becomes available
Contribute to the delivery of EBITDA targets, cash flow and budgets, through a reduction in waste, inefficiency and third party haulage
Builds strong relationships that ensure the delivery of cross functional projects
Any other duties deemed appropriate for this role from time to time
Cost Control, Planning, routing, 3rd party courier management and administration
Managing a current team of 15 drivers and 2 administrative personnel ensuring effective allocation of duties across 2 sites
To effectively route deliveries to fully utilise the fleet to maximum efficiency
Organise third-party haulage (where critical)
Properly use tracker systems to maximise fleet efficiency
Ensure the monitoring and delivery of customer service targets such as (OTIF)
Ensure that the transport department operates within the stated company quality assurance procedures
Manages the budget, forecasting and review process to ensure effective measurement of progress against plan and build clear action plans to address variances
Regular (weekly/daily) reporting to management on results, agreeing and ensuring remediable action where required
Management of the transport department activities and tasks
Effective management of the transport team to deliver the daily/weekly tasks that ensure the effective and efficient distribution operation
Organise and control the effective supervision of all transport key activities within the sites against the targets set.
Book and monitor regular vehicular inspections and services
Carry out scheduled vehicle checks and rectify defects immediately Managing driver debrief including cash collected on route
Management of driver hours and control of overtime
Monitor driver infringements and use corrective actions, where necessary
Ensure drivers maintain regular vehicle checks and report defects immediately
Investigate any accidents and liaise with relevant insurers
Manage the booking in to customer sites
Monitor and manage the proper completion of 'paperwork' (delivery notes, POD’s, etc...)
Manage the completion of haulier audits
Organise tail lift inspections
Acts at all times as a positive force for change, plan effectively and sees through changes thoroughly and expediently.
Lead the process for monitoring progress against plans. Ensures activities deliver expected benefits, learning and feedback.
Learns from previous experience before undertaking similar tasks. Incorporates learning into the planning process and seeks to improve performance as a result
Build a culture of continuous improvement through effective annual appraisals and ongoing coaching and mentoring
Ensure the development of clear succession plans for key roles
Essential role related knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience at selection
Essential:
* CPC Certificate
* Significant transport experience in the food sector
* Knowledgeable in transport legislation
* Understanding of managing 3rd party couriers
* Experience of transport planning and routing
* Experience of managing logistics teams
* Understanding of KPI’s and management of cost budgets
* Highly numerate
* Data analysis - demonstrable Excel ability & systems
* Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
* Experience of developing strong internal cross functional relationships
Desirable:
* HGV licence
* Appropriate Health and Safety qualification – IOSH, COSHH
* FMCG background
* Experience of using SAP / ERP systems
