THE Liberal Democrats have called on companies to shift down to fleets of cars with 1.5-litre engines as part of a package of measures to discourage the use of thirsty vehicles.

The Party also called for an increase of 3p per litre in fuel duty to pay for a cut in the road fund licence from £140 to just £10 on smaller engined cars. The Goverment attacked the Liberal Democrat proposals, and said they would be a tax on rural communities.
