AS the 'green' fleet lobby gathers momentum the Confederation of British Industry has published a new guide to transport best practice called 'All Aboard!' in which it calls on companies to reduce the environmental impact of their transport policies to cut costs and remain competitive.

The CBI has examined how other European governments have incentivised environmental fleet practices, and in the new year it will be spelling out precisely how the Government can encourage UK fleet operators to 'green-up' their act with tax breaks and other fiscal measures.

Last year, the CBI called for increased public expenditure on all modes of transport and reform of the current fiscal and pricing regime in its 'Moving Forward' document. 'All Aboard!' takes the employers' organisation's campaign another stage further by highlighting the win-win situations where both business and the environment benefit from greater efficiency and increased sustainability.
