AUDI has announced prices for the Audi A4 saloon and Avant - estate - models powered by the new five cylinder 2.8 litre 193 bhp engine. They replace the 2.6 litre 150 bhp unit currently powering the A4 quattro and will also be offered in front wheel drive versions as an addition to the top-end of the A4 saloon and Avant ranges.

All models are available now and the new engine, which debuted in the A6 range, features Audi's five valve per cylinder technology with variable camshaft timing and a variable intake manifold. As a result the S8 V6 engine sees power up from 174 bhp to 193 bhp and torque up from 250 Nm at 3000 rpm to 280 Nm at 3200 rpm.

The new 2.8s share the same specification as the A4 2.6 - including driver airbag, height and reach adjustable steering column, electric front windows and power steering - but with the addition of traction control and 20-5/R 15 W low profile tyres. Special Equipment (SE) versions gain additional specification of electronic climate control, eight spoke alloy wheels, outside temperature gauge and a leather rim airbag steering wheel. The Avant SE also gain black roof rails.

Prices are: A4 2.8 £23,965, 2.8 SE £25,692, Avant 2.8 £24,840, Avant 2.8 SE £26,738, quattro £27,498, Avant quattro £28,544. The first four models are available with optional five-speed automatic gearbox.
