ICI Chlor-Chemicals has appointed BSM Qualified Driver Training to train its Research and Technology team after concluding the motorway was a more dangerous environment than the workplace. The approved supplier deal involves training 45 drivers per year over two years followed by refresher courses every three years, or every two years for drivers under 25.

ICI Chlor-Chemicals R&T systems improvement manager Graham Scott said: 'Our statistics show employees face greater risks when out on the road than in their place of work. With such a high emphasis placed on health and safety, driver training has an important part to play in our commitment to employees and the efficiency of the company as a whole. We realised some time ago that the way to improve health and safety is not by increasing the number of rules and regulations but by changing people's attitudes.'
