KWIK-FIT Fleet has become the first fast-fit operation to join the OASIS smart card-based electronic trading community. Managing director Ron Bambra - who was instrumental in floating the concept of a smart card with fleet applications - announced that the first Kwik-Fit outlets would go on-line as OASIS service providers within the next two months.

After a lengthy trial period, OASIS finally entered its commercial phase earlier this year when Lease Plan became the first fee-paying customer (Fleet News April 26). OASIS has since signed contracts with various customers and service providers including dealer group Carringtons and intends to recruit 21 fleet and leasing companies and 1,000 service providers by the end of next year.

Fleet operators using the OASIS system issue company car drivers with a vehicle-specific smart card containing driver, vehicle and company details together with authorisation parameters. The card is presented as payment and the information read directly onto a PC - eliminating the possibility of mistakes or authorisation queries arising at the invoicing stage.
