GREATER awareness of the benefits that technology can deliver in solving traffic congestion and environmental problems should be shown by the Government, according to Greg Connell, managing director of Car Fleet Control. Responding to the Government's consultation document 'Towards an Integrated Transport Policy', Connell said many transport problems could be helped by technology.

He said: 'Probably the technology which will deliver most benefits - and is becoming increasingly accessible to fleets in terms of price and availability - is in vehicle navigation and route planning systems. This type of technology is important because it allows fleets to maximise use of the existing road network, meaning that no new resources need be found. 'The real step forward will come when this type of system is integrated with navigation software.'
