THE British-built Nissan Primera has been added to the official choice list of Government ministers' cars. The Primera joins Ford, Rover, and Vauxhall cars on the approved list thanks partly to a campaign by Fraser Kemp, MP for Houghton and Washington East.

'The Primera is a thoroughly British car built in a factory in my constituency and providing employment to several thousand North-East people,' he said. 'When I checked the car list I noticed that neither Honda nor Toyota, who also build cars in Britain, were included so I am pleased to get Nissan on first.'

The Government Car and Despatch Agency is carrying out road tests of the Primera to ensure it meets the strict criteria demanded of Government cars. So far no orders for the Nissan have been received from ministers.
