THE CBI is calling for radical solutions to Britain's accelerating transport crisis. Director general Adair Turner slammed the Government's transport track record and again demanded the establishment of a co-ordinated national transport policy.

Turner said road transport faced a crisis with no clear strategy for how increasing demand will be matched against supply when congestion is forecast to almost double over the next decade.

He added that solving these problems required a willingness to consider radical options, but with any future Government facing tough spending decisions, existing sources of finance were likely to fall short of needs.
