VAUXHALL is to unveil its restyled Corsa, featuring Europe's first three cylinder four-valve engine, and a new executive estate car which could be in production within the next two years at next week's Geneva Motor Show. The new-look Corsa will go on sale in the UK in early summer when revised prices will be announced and while it has been restyled front and back and has substantial suspension modifications the new engine is the most significant development.
The new 1.0-litre engine a top speed of 94mph, a 0-62mph time of 18secs with the revolutionary engine producing maximum power of 55PS at 5,600rpm and maximum torque of 82Nm at 2,800rpm. The new engine delivers 49mpg under the new EC combined driving cycle which is 15% more economical than the must frugal engine in the current Vauxhall range. Fuel consumption is further boosted by up to 5% by electrically operated power steering which offers the benefits of conventional systems, but is lighter and needs power only when the steering wheel is turned.
