BSM chief executive Paul Massey has left the company after it decided to streamline its senior management - leaving managing director Richard Glover in the driving seat.

Massey's £350,000 pay-off adversely affected BSM's profits, which slipped 2% to £5.27 million after exceptionals (up 5.8% at from £5.38 million in 1995 to £5.69 million before exceptionals) in the year to December 27, 1996. After 12 years with the company, Massey will continue to act as a consultant to BSM for the present.

BSM has invested heavily in new technology and the development of new learning aids, but business was slow for much of the year due to the changes to the learner driving test.
