DEALER group Henlys is to increase its focus on specialist franchises in a drive to maximise margins.

In the year to December 31, Henleys' Motor Division contributed £7.8 million (1995: £7.5M) to the profits of its parent company - which has foreign and domestic coach and bus interests - on turnover of £374.9 million (1995: £328.8M).

Chief executive Robert Wood said the market for volume cars was difficult with Henlys' major franchises reflecting the performance of the volume manufacturers by turning in lower profits. Henlys' disposed of two Ford franchises, but its two new BMW acquisitions contributed £0.6 million to profits and more recent purchases representing Chrysler Jeep, Audi, Volkswagen, Suzuki and Honda are expected to show further progress.
