THE RAC and the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association have joined forces to produce a second Fair Wear & Tear Guide aimed at the car rental industry. The new guide is a follow-up to last year's Fair Wear and Tear Guide for the contract hire industry and will be available from the BVRLA stand at the Fleet Motor Show at Silverstone from April 29-May 2 costing £1.25 a copy with bulk order discounts.

By defining uniform, minimum return standards acceptable in nearly new vehicles, the new guide aims to clear the fog for car rental companies whose fleets are a mix of marques, with each motor manufacturer defining its own set of standards for acceptable 'wear and tear'. Areas covered in the guide are: paintwork, dents, bumpers, window glass and lamp lenses, tyres, wheel and trims, interior trim, luggage area, badges and decals, controls, tools and accessories and keys and security systems.
