MANUFACTURERS' absences from the Fleet Motor Show have prompted at least one fleet operator to switch his policy in protest. Insurance broker Peter Hill & Company is ditching Ford and BMW in favour of Renault.

Director Andrew Jamieson, who looks after the fleet, said: 'I would like to know why these manufacturers felt it necessary to boycott the event and consequently treat with contempt their key source of income. Are they so sure their vehicles will sell without this kind of promotion?

'There seemed to be just as many visitors there this year and it gave other lower volume manufacturers a splendid opportunity to show how they can look after potential volume customers. I will be changing from BMW and Ford to Renault.'
