VOLKSWAGEN is predicting a massive UK sales increase on the strength of a string of new models and is targeting a major attack on Peugeot's position in the 'big four'. Volkswagen's confident prediction came at the Fleet Motor Show where the new Passat was one of the stars.

Last year Volkswagen sold 114,084 cars in the UK, is planning to sell 130,000 this year and is aiming to overtake the likes of Nissan, Fiat and Citroen in the fleet market as it guns down Peugeot - currently the UK's fourth leading manufacturer.

Volkswagen's national fleet sales manager Vince Kinner said: 'We are looking to grow our volume over the next three years. We are firmly set on Peugeot. We believe we can be the leading importer into the UK. Volkswagen in Europe is aiming to be the number one importer in every market in which it sells.'

Next year Volkswagen will launch a new Golf with a new Golf estate to follow. Other new models include a baby Polo called the Lupo, a Vento saloon late next year - and expect to see a mini-MPV.
